WHEN TO VISIT TANZANIA
When to Visit Tanzania?
Tanzania is a fantastic year-round destination, with each season offering unique advantages for safari-goers, beach lovers, and adventurers. Whether you’re visiting the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, or Zanzibar’s beaches, there’s always something incredible to experience.
Dry Season (June–October):
This is the best time for wildlife viewing in parks like the Serengeti, Tarangire, and Ruaha. Animals gather around water sources, making them easier to spot, and vegetation is less dense. This period also includes the Great Migration river crossings in the northern Serengeti (July–August). Expect pleasant temperatures (22–28°C), minimal rain, and excellent road conditions—ideal for safaris.
Short Dry Season (January–February):
A brief dry spell between rains, this is the calving season in the southern Serengeti, attracting predators and dramatic wildlife action. It’s also a great time for birdwatching and visiting Zanzibar’s beaches.
Wet Season (March–May and November–December):
The long rains occur from March to May, bringing lush landscapes and fewer tourists. Though game viewing is still possible, some roads may become muddy, especially in remote parks. The short rains in November and December are less intense and still suitable for travel. Zanzibar remains popular, with occasional showers not disrupting beach time.
Tourist Seasons:
Low Season: March to May – fewer visitors, lower prices, and green landscapes.
Mid-Season: November to mid-December – some rain, but quieter parks and good value.
High Season: June to October and late December to February – peak safari and beach time, with the best wildlife experiences and highest visitor numbers.
No matter when you travel, Tanzania’s epic wildlife, diverse landscapes, and rich cultures guarantee a memorable journey year-round.
