Ranking as the 6th largest national park in Tanzania and covering an area of 2,600 square kilometers, it is most popular for its large elephant herds and is usually very dry, in fact, drier than the Serengeti.

However, its vegetation is much greener with lots of grass, vast areas with mixed acacia woodlands and some of the wonderful ribbons of the aquatic forest. Also, do not forget about the giant baobab trees that can live up to 600 years, storing between 300 and 900 liters of water.

In the afternoon you will break for lunch.

After lunch, the game drive continues until you start driving to your lodge. It is now time to relax, dine, swim and relive the memories you collected during the day.

Today, most visitors come here with one aim alone – to witness millions of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle and eland on a mass trek to quench their thirst for water and to eat fresh grass. During this great cyclical movement, these ungulates move around the ecosystem in a seasonal pattern, defined by rainfall and grass nutrients.

By March, at the beginning of the dry season, roughly 1.5 million wildebeest and 250,000 zebras start to migrate heading north towards Maasai Mara. To get to the Maasai Mara, the herds have to cross the Grumeti and Mara Rivers where around 3,000 crocodiles lie in wait. For every wildebeest captured by the crocodiles, 50 drown.
